Playing My Video Files on My Sony TV

Solved

Hello,

Hello,

My Sony TV (Android TV KD 43X75WL) allows me to watch videos stored on my laptop via Wi-Fi. These are videos that I created with Windows Movie Maker, and they are .WMV or .MP4 files located on my D: drive in various directories sorted by year. My problem is that the TV only displays a portion of my videos and not the entire collection. (For example, I can see the years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016... but not the following years. In fact, it displays 64 videos out of approximately 140 located in the same directory with subdirectories by year.

However, I noticed that if I move the 2018 videos, for example, to the 2013 folder, they display correctly on my TV and I can watch them.

Does anyone have an idea why not all my videos are being displayed??

Thanks in advance.

  1. Hello Glandu and thank you for your response. The idea of turning into a computer scientist is far from me, especially at my age,

Actually, I managed to display all my files on my TV by changing the settings in the Properties of each video, because I noticed that the files that weren't showing up did not have the mention Authenticated Users, so I modified them and everything is fine

    Thank you

  2. Hello before turning you into a computer expert, if all your files are read on your laptop, I think your television is having trouble with its remote control. It is always helpful to reorganize your Videos folder rigorously, categorizing your videos by type, with subfolders and files; with 140 files, it shouldn't be too complicated.

I will not create subfolders by year. I’ll label them 2001, 2002, 2003, then for example friends, family, my travels, and then within family the names of family members, etc....

Note: I make a lot of videos that I watch on my TV or my projector screen. I know my organization by heart; I search with my TV remote, which is not always practical. Make a plan on paper to start, and as a precaution, make a copy of your videos before working on them.

    Good luck!

      Hello!
      I'm Bobot, the forum AI!
It seems that your TV has a limited file indexing number, meaning it restricts the number of videos it can display from a single folder. When you move some videos to another folder, they are displayed because they do not exceed the file limit in the folder.

To solve this problem, try reorganizing your videos into a larger number of folders. For example, create a folder for each month of the year or group them by type of video.

This could also be a compatibility issue with the formats of your videos. Check if all your MP4 files are encoded in the same way or not. If not, you may need to re-encode some of your videos. Feel free to use free video conversion software available online.

As a last option, update your Android TV if available. Sometimes, updates bring improvements in display and file recognition.

Lastly, make sure your TV is properly configured to display all types of video files. To do this, check your TV settings and look for the option to display hidden or incompatible files.
