Connecting an iiyama/dell/asus monitor to a mac mini

Solved

Hello,

I am exploring the market to find a screen to connect to a Mac mini M2. I received some advice (from Francis and Ritchi, whom I greet if they're online) on how to pair a MacBook Air.

I have selected 3 screens that offer a "USB-C dock" that allows for charging the Mac's battery.

The Mac mini doesn't require that, and my question is: can this powered USB-C port be used like a regular USB-C port to connect another device without disrupting its operation?

PS: I am keeping this option in case -in the future- I connect a portable Mac.

Thank you in advance

Best regards

  1. Hello,

To my knowledge, a screen connects to a video output (VGA, HDMI, Display Port).

The keyboard only goes through USB.

    Am I mistaken?

"Only the keyboard goes through the USB" and peripherals like an external hard drive, USB stick, etc... No screen...

  2. Hello,

With Apple products equipped with a USB-C port, you can connect a monitor that also has a USB-C port and even charge or power a laptop since this port is powered.

You can also connect a Mac Mini directly without using HDMI or DisplayPort.

My initial question is: can this powered port be used as a regular USB-C port to connect, for example, a Mac Mini or a hard drive that are already powered (without a battery)? I have since received the answer and it's YES.

Happy end of the year to everyone and Happy New Year 2024.

Hello everyone, So can we mark it as Resolved? (you could have done it, at the top of the first question). I'll do it.
