No more updates for Mac OS X High Sierra 10.13.6 mid-2011

Solved

Hello,

I have a 21.5-inch macOS from mid-2011, running High Sierra 10.13.6. No more updates.

I'm trying to upgrade to CATALINA 10.15.7 and the Apple Store says this version can't be installed on this computer.

As a result, I can't update my HP Laser Jet Pro printer because it requires at least version 10.14, and I can no longer print or reinstall the printer.

I'm lost.

Thank you for your help.

  1. Hello,

Indeed your Mac cannot go beyond macOS 10.13.

However, the driver for this version of macOS is available on the HP website at the following address:

    https://support.hp.com/fr-fr/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-mfp-m28-m31-printer-series/16647082/model/16647088

    What I suggest doing is:

    - From the Apple menu,

    - go to System Preferences

    - then to Printers and Scanners

    - right-click in the right part of the window to choose "Reset Printing System"

    Then,

    - download the drivers and/or programs from the HP site that I provided the link to

    - install the driver

    - restart the Mac and test...

    Best of luck ;)

    1. Good evening,

It will have to be put on another computer...

      1. Good evening,

What is the exact model of this printer?

Has this printer ever worked on your Mac?

What is the minimum configuration required to use this printer?

Have you visited this site to find the necessary drivers?

        https://123.hp.com/fr/fr/printers/laserjet

If nothing works, have you tried a "universal" driver like one from Gutenprint?

        https://gimp-print.sourceforge.net

        Best regards.

        1. Hello,

          Thank you for your response.

The model of my printer is HP SMART Laser Jet Pro MFPM28w serial number VNC 5676321.

I was using it on my macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6, my Mac is from 2011 (21.5 inches).

It was working perfectly and then suddenly stopped printing. It’s out of connection and not recognized, while the scanning still worked.

          The test page worked.

HP support tried to have me install the printer driver but it still didn’t work.

They had me delete the printer via "System Preferences" and then directed me to the HP website to "install HP SMART". Impossible. It hasn’t been under warranty for 6 months and they didn’t want to take control of my Mac to resolve the issue.

So now no printer is showing up.

I still have 2 folders in my applications. One for HP and the other for HP Easy Scan.app.

I haven’t tried the universal driver you mentioned.

So since there’s no printer showing up, I will go to the site you mentioned and see if that works.

I will leave a message to keep you updated.

          Thanks again for your assistance.

          Have a good Sunday.

          Best regards.

          1. Good evening,

Thank you very much for your valuable help.

I will follow your instructions and keep you informed of the results.

Regarding my printer that was no longer recognized, I followed your explanations.

The problem was that the printer no longer had the same IP address (I don't know why), but with your explanations, I was able to reinstall it without any issues, and everything is working perfectly.

I am infinitely grateful; your advice has been invaluable.

            Have a good evening.

            Best regards
