Accessing the BIOS on a Windows Vista 32-bit Laptop
Solved
Hello,
I would like to install Linux Lite on an old Windows Vista 32 bit, but the screen is no longer working, so I connected a second screen using a VGA cable, but the second screen only activates when the computer is at "Loading..." which is too late to access the BIOS.
I hope there is a solution to connect a second screen and have it detected even when the computer is at the BIOS level.
Best regards.

Hello
It may be necessary to access the BIOS without the screen; it should display afterwards...
If you know your BIOS access key (Esc, F1, F10, etc.), it depends on your machine.
But you haven't provided your model....
Turn off, then turn on your machine and immediately after, without holding down the key, press the BIOS access key (approximately every 2 seconds); do not stop until the display appears.
See you!

Is it resolved? The green button at the top is great!
Let him who has never opened a user manual throw the first mouse ;-) -
The problem is that the second screen is connected via a VGA cable, so the second screen doesn't turn on yet when we are in the BIOS; it only turns on when the computer is at Loading, so even if I access the BIOS, the screen remains off.

Hello
On your laptop, which we know nothing about, there is probably a key to switch from one screen to another...
Key Fn at the bottom + key F6 or F8, etc...
See you later

@Anonymous userHello,
I don't have the same issue (since everything works) accessing my external screen (HDMI) on a laptop with a functioning main screen: before the login window, the external screen is black because the drivers are not yet loaded.
And there's nothing that can be done (except, when possible, for the drivers to be added directly from external media at the BIOS level, which was a known case with the F6 key in older Windows installations) but since we do not have access to the BIOS settings, the question doesn't even arise. -
@brucineHello, so what does the F6 key do (and does that mean there is no solution to my problem?)?
-
@Anonymous userIt allowed on these old systems to install an absent driver originally located on a floppy disk, but it did not allow access to the BIOS: it was launched from there.
-
@brucineBut is there no solution to access the BIOS with the second screen on or to change the boot order when the computer is on without going through the BIOS?

Thank you, but Windows + P doesn't seem to be working either.
