Can someone help me so that in Windows Explorer, the duration of an Mkv file is displayed? No problem with all the other video files.
Thank you in advance for your help

  1. Hello,

Look on this site for a Portable version available in French
Icaros > Windows Explorer extension for video/audio formats

  2. Hello,
and thank you for your message.
Unfortunately, I still don't have the duration in the explorer for the mkv files.
Maybe there's a configuration in the software that I haven't set up correctly...

    1. Can you provide a screenshot of the explorer to see and understand how your display looks?

    1. OK
      in File Explorer Options
      View
Can you provide a screenshot of the complete menu
To see which boxes are checked

And right-click on an MKV file
      Properties
      Details
and check in the Video section
      is the Duration present

  4. I just opened another folder with mkv files, and for those, I have the duration.
When opening the "Properties - Details" of the different files, those for which I do not have the duration in the explorer do not have it in the "Details" either.
So it is normal that nothing is displayed in the explorer since it cannot find the information in the tags.
So why do some files have more complete tags than others is the new question!

Try re-converting the format of an Mkv file to Mkv using a conversion software
Your problem comes from the files, and look at the difference

    2. @LatifaYes, I believe these MKV files have an issue because I can't make any modifications (error message on saving) with MKV Tag Editor, whereas with others, it goes smoothly.

  5. Have you checked the tags of your file? Look in "Properties" + "Details" to see if the duration is mentioned in the relevant line. If not, it's normal that you don't see anything in the explorer since it can't find any information.
So why do some downloaded mkv files include the duration and others do not: a mystery!!

    1. Sure

However, if you tried to re-encode, does it work to get an idea?
      Thanks

  7. Good evening,
I re-encoded the files with Format Factory and the durations have come back, and the modifications with MKV Tag Editor are working fine.
What went wrong with these files is beyond my skills.
In any case, thank you very much for your help, Latifa!
    Have a great weekend!

'What went wrong with these files'
It sometimes happens for various reasons during reconstruction or otherwise.
The main thing is to have been able to correct the error.

Thank you for the feedback and have a good weekend.
