My hdmi and dvi ports are not working anymore!...
Solved
Hello everyone,
for the past week I have had no display on my PC.
GeForce GTX 980 card. It was acting up a bit at startup (the screen disconnects after two minutes and then nothing since...)
I tested with another screen, and it’s the same. I tested my screen on another computer and it works. I bought an HDMI/DVI adapter to connect it, but it’s still the same. A red light comes on the card near the HDMI port, but I don't know if it did that before the failure. Do you have any idea? Since I have no display at all, I can't check the settings... Please! Help!

"I bought an HDMI/DVI interface to connect it next to it, but it's the same".
What do you mean by that?
Finally, please tell us the composition of your PC or the brand and model, if it’s a branded PC.

Hello Pilam,
Can you tell us what happened just before the incident? I'm specifically thinking about a component change or a physical shock to the machine.
So there's a light next to the HDMI port on the graphics card, that's strange. Can you tell us a bit more about the machine's configuration? -
Hello,
I no longer have display on my PC
It's silly, but as far as we're concerned, "my PC" has no meaning!!
As epango rightly points out, when asking your question, it's highly recommended to indicate the exact references of your machine, the operating system installed, and its version.
Please complete your question.
Best regards.

Hello again, I completely agree I wasn't precise enough but I don't have much information.
ASUS (I don't remember the specs, and I didn't print it…)
I see the red light on top of the card (side panels of the transparent case). GEFORCE GTX 980 "classified" card.
That's exactly it Shiftou_035, I was indeed talking about an HDMI/DVI adapter going from the screen to the DVI port of the card, instead of the HDMI port to see if the problem was coming from the port. But it seems to me that DVI = analog, I should have thought about that beforehand.
The first "weird" signs are crackling/buzzing in the subwoofer when I went to a gaming site and the computer shut down... (coincidence?) afterwards, the screen kept going blank (asking HDMI? Analog? and so on). When I pressed (without holding) the switch, the PC would shut down immediately.
Just in case, I removed and reseated the memory modules. Since that operation, it boots completely, at least I think so, and I also checked the connections, fans, etc. Don't laugh, I don't know much about this :-)
If I could send a photo it would be clearer. Thanks again.-
By installing this software on your PC, you will have all the information about the components.

@glg29Thank you glg29,
but my PC is "blind". If I could install a graphics card from another PC, it could help, but the other PCs in the house are laptops and I don't even know if the connections are standard from one PC to another.- case "Dark Trooper"
-
@pilamHe is "blind" for sure, but if you are connected with the screen to your graphics card, maybe you have the option to connect it directly to the motherboard, right? Not possible?

Yes, you're right, but it does the same thing with the HDMI port on the motherboard; the screen doesn't detect the port and keeps offering HDMI, analog, HDMI, analog, etc.
It might not add anything, but it's an ACER and not ASUS. (Even there, I made a mistake...) -
On the motherboard I have:
1 HDMI
4 USB
1 ethernet
and 3 jacks for audio
on the graphics card:
2 DVI
1 HDMI and another one that looks vaguely like a larger HDMI. -
I tried it only once when I moved the RAM sticks - I'm going to test it again - thanks a lot for your help!

Don't you have any reference for the PC written down somewhere? Neither on a sticker attached to it, nor on an invoice?

Hello epango,
nothing much to say and I no longer have the invoice, it was a second-hand purchase at EASY CASH - it's been about 5 years... Not easy!
on the front:
DARK TROOPER
labels:
nvidia geforce
intel inside core i5
samsung ssd activated
I noticed one thing that has changed with the breakdown is the beep at startup:
before it was the short and high-pitched beep of the DVD and now it's a deeper and longer beep (about 3s) coming from the back - maybe the motherboard?
I took out and repositioned the graphics card but it doesn't change anything.
thank you! -
Thank you glg29,
I must have not reseated a RAM stick properly.
That's fixed on that side. -
no, it's just
only the beep that had changed. I thought I had a small clue, but no, it's probably me who messed up by reattaching a stick incorrectly...
I still don't have a display. However, I found the invoice or rather the detailed receipt of the various assembled components.
acer aspire tc-605 with 8GB of RAM
gtx 980 evg graphics card
I'll spare you the monitor/keyboard/mouse/discs. -
Yes, maybe it was replaced before I bought it in 2016 - I think the assembly was done by Easy Cash (as I have the receipt for each item) and they decided to put in a GTX 980 - it was still working until last week.

It's back up and running!
I just realized there was a tiny piece of nylon thread
that was preventing the graphics card from being fully inserted. I couldn't see it from the angle I was at. It must have come from an old tie used to hold the cables together, but it had been there since it was installed.
Still, my tower stays in place; I hardly ever move it, just to give it a quick vacuum, but that was enough to interrupt the connection.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the help and the interest shown in my problem.
Catch you later!-
Wonderful, it’s a bit for a contact story that I was asking you above to remove and reinstall the card several times, see HERE.
It shows that sometimes it doesn’t take much to get into a bind, the main thing is to have found the cause of the problems.
Good luck moving forward.
Best regards.
