Hello,
Could you help me recover my old Messenger account that wasn't linked to the Facebook account I just created? It has disappeared, and when I try with the phone number, it says it will send a code that I never receive ????????♀️
Configuration: iPhone / Safari 13.1.2

Vdhv is right.
Until December 2019, it was possible to create a Messenger account WITHOUT a Facebook account, just with a mobile number and a password.
This option has now been removed by Facebook (https://www.clubic.com/messagerie-instantanee/actualite-880686-utiliser-messenger-compte-facebook.html) and a Facebook account is now absolutely necessary to use Messenger for new accounts.
Messenger accounts created without Facebook before 2020 continue to function as such.
However, a major problem exists, and Vdhv has experienced it (like me): If you create a Facebook account using the same phone number as a Messenger-only account, Facebook creates a new empty Messenger account.
The old Messenger account becomes inactive, rather completely blocked.
Worse:
- Your Messenger contacts can no longer reach you because your old account is considered closed.
- All the Messenger groups you were an administrator of are blocked!
Even by deactivating the created Facebook account and requesting to continue using Messenger, it is the new Messenger account (created when the FB account was created) that remains active.
To date, no solution has been found, except for:
- Redefining all your contacts in the new FB or Messenger account.
- Asking all your contacts to change your contact information (therefore redefining you as a contact with your new account).
- Asking the admins of groups where you were to redefine you as a member with your new account;
- And too bad for the groups where you were the only administrator, the conversations are lost :-(
