Canon MX470 printer installation issue with Asus PC running Windows 10

Solved
Hello, I am reaching out to you because I have an issue with my printer since I changed my computer.

Indeed, with my old laptop, it detected the printer perfectly via Wi-Fi and the installation went very smoothly.

I changed to a new laptop, which has Windows 10 Home, and during the reinstallation of my printer, I launch the driver for installation, the printer is found and after a few seconds, it shows: unable to create a new port: 0000

I should mention that when checking the settings of my Livebox to see if it might be a Wi-Fi issue, I can see my new laptop connected via Wi-Fi and the printer also connected via Wi-Fi, so it might be a connection problem between the laptop and the printer.

When I search for a printer in the "Add Printer" section of the Control Panel, my printer is not detected.

The drivers I wanted to install are up to date and come from Canon, whom I contacted and who tried to guide me through some steps but without success.

My laptop does not have a CD drive, so I cannot use an installation CD, and I do not have a cable to connect between the printer and the laptop, so I really need to get it to work via Wi-Fi.

Could you please help me?

Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

All kinds of cables are sold in stores, often even in large supermarkets...

    Check out the site https://www.canon.fr/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx475.html?type=drivers&language=fr&os=windows+10+%2864-bit)

    Complete driver and software package for MX470 series (Windows 10/10 x64/8.1/8.1 x64/8/8 x64/7/7 x64/Vista/Vista64/XP)

This printer connects via Wifi on the 2.4gHz frequency; if you try with Wifi 5gHz, it won't work... so you need to search on this channel by pressing the WPS button on your BOX for at least 5 seconds, the light should flash... then you have 10 minutes to connect or 5 depending on the BOX... you must be within wifi range without any cover or concrete wall.
To make things easier, it is recommended to place it 1 meter away from the BOX and set up the connection that way. Then, once it works, you can put it in its actual place... if it doesn't work anymore, it's because you are too far away or there are obstacles between the two..

The PC also needs to be within Wifi range of the BOX, otherwise communication is not possible..
If you don’t have a CD drive, that’s not a problem. You can connect to Canon and download the drivers for your printer (for Windows 10) and then install them on your machine... (without a drive).

    1. Thank you, Jeannets, for all these details. As for the cable, I've managed to get one in the meantime, so when the printer is connected via USB to the computer, it works well, but I want to connect it via Wi-Fi.
Regarding the printer drivers, a technician from Canon had me reinstall them, but without much success.
As for the Wi-Fi frequency, I checked the devices connected to my router, and I see that the printer is indeed on 2.4 GHz while the computer is on 5 GHz; the router handles both frequencies.
The technician from Canon thinks that the problem may come from my computer, but it is brand new.

  2. Good evening, thank you for your help, I carefully followed your very clear instructions but in the end, it prompted me to print a test page which I initiated and unfortunately, I received an error message indicating that the printing could not be done.
Earlier in the afternoon, I had a technician from Canon who helped me reinstall the printer drivers and every time I tried to print a test page, I encountered the same error every time.
I want to point out that with my previous laptop, it detected it and everything went well.
With this new laptop, when I go to settings and search for printers, it does not find it, it does not appear in the options provided, which is why I had doubts about compatibility.
I even checked my router to see what is connected to the Wi-Fi and the printer is indeed there.

      Hello,

Download and install --> Revo Uninstaller
      Run it as administrator
      Uninstall all Canon printer products
Carefully follow the tutorial to uninstall everything properly, including residual folders and registry keys.
For the residual scan, check advanced mode.
      Restart the PC.

Reinstall the printer by following the instructions for Wi-Fi installation

      3. Well, I followed everything you asked me, and the final result after installing the drivers is the error message you can see in the photo.
And when I go to settings, devices, printers and scanners, and I try to add a printer, the computer doesn't see it.
        I think it’s a hopeless case :-(

If by any chance you are communicating via "Wi-Fi Direct" between your PC and printer... your PC being on 5GHz will not be able to communicate with your printer... it simply won't see it..

Your new PC is not faulty compared to the old one... it is just configured differently... find the same settings and it will work...

The way to install the drivers from @kaneagle is precise and meticulous, I can only recommend following it to the letter.

One more thing... if you make a photocopy on this printer, without using the PC, but only the printer's buttons... does it work??

      1. Alright, I understand better now; I will follow exactly what @kaneagle indicated to me, and I will keep you updated.

To answer your question, by directly pressing the buttons on the printer, I can indeed make a photocopy.

When I send a document to print from my phone, it works too because it detects it via wifi, and yet, on my box, it also appears like my PC on 5 GHz; it’s complicated sometimes, lol.

      Hello,

The installation manual is here: https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/8/0300013568/01/MX470_GS_E8a-1_V1.pdf

Did you strictly follow the protocol? That is to say:
      1) Network detection by the printer (done on the printer itself)
      2) Connection to the network either by entering the WiFi key (still on the printer's small screen), or via WPS.
      3) Installation of the software on the computer either with the provided CD or by downloading the package provided by Canon here.

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.

      1. Good evening Pierr10, on this side, there is no problem.
My printer is connected to my Wi-Fi network and is listed among the connected devices of the box.
It's the connection between my new laptop and the printer that isn't working.

        What antivirus do you have?

        Is Windows up to date?
        Press Windows + R
        Type --> winver and OK

        What's the version?

        1. Good evening, sorry for not being able to respond earlier.

As for the antivirus, I only have Windows Security, I haven't added anything else.

Regarding Windows, it is up to date, the computer is brand new and I am doing the updates.
          It’s Windows 10 Home.
For the version you're asking about, I checked, it’s 2004.

The connection does not go from the computer to the printer... But the computer ==> the BOX ==> the printer

if one of the connections is too long or has an obstacle... or is not on the same channel, the connection may not work...
What works on one segment does not necessarily work on the entire line...

It’s not by chance that it doesn’t work... There is a reason...

            1. Hello Jeannets, I know there is a reason for all this, but I would really like to find out what it is.
What is certain is that I have already managed to get my computer on the same wifi frequency as my printer, namely 2.4 GHz, because the computer was previously on 5 GHz while the printer was on 2.4.
Looking at the wifi settings of my router, the 2.4 GHz channel is number 6.

                Hello,

It's strictly unimportant: I have a printer that communicates with the box via 2.4 GHz WiFi, and two computers. One uses 5 GHz WiFi and the other uses 2.4 GHz WiFi through a repeater. Everything is working perfectly.

I thought about your problem and couldn't find a solution. For me, it's the driver installation program that's problematic or the way it’s being used.
Try launching the installation with the firewall of the computer disabled.

Yes, okay, but the communication is on a network... it goes from a PC on 5GHz to the BOX
and then it's the BOX that transmits on 2.4 to the printer....

But a PC on 5GHz cannot communicate directly (wifi direct) with a printer on 2.4, I believe our friend doesn't grasp the difference between these two ways of communicating..

-- Indeed all the channels on 2.4 communicate, there are 13 from 1 to 13 but they are all on 2.4... these channels are a distribution cut... But it's the BOX that is the conductor.

I imagine I'm not teaching you anything... but others are reading... and some mix everything up.

                Hi!

If we're considering Wi-Fi Direct, that's indeed a different story.

But if I understood correctly, the issue wasn't about getting the printer to communicate with the router (which is managed from the printer), but about installing the software on the computer. That's the second part of the installation.
                0
              2. Hello Jeannets, I completely understand the difference, I'm not that foolish, I can still think, but what Pierr10 points out is more accurate, namely that the issue is indeed with installing the software initially on the computer since an error appears systematically as indicated in previous posts.
As for the Wi-Fi frequency, as mentioned, everything is now running on 2.4 GHz but the problem persists nonetheless, and even with this frequency issue, my mobile phone operates on a Wi-Fi frequency of 5 GHz and yet it sends prints to my printer just fine as it goes through the box, so the computer should be able to do the same except that the computer does not detect the printer.
But anyway, it's not a big deal, I'll find it quicker to replace the printer, which will be much simpler in my opinion.
Thank you for your help anyway.

I'm sorry if I upset you... Unfortunately, I'm afraid that changing the printer won't solve the problem...

-- Indeed, printing works well when you send it from your smartphone... so it works on that front and the printer is functioning properly.

-- If we think logically; it's the computer that should be changed... Not the printer... No..!

Don't forget, in the setup, you need to
              Add a printer
              and afterwards you must select
              "on a local network"
the PC automatically searches for your printer... If it doesn't find it, you need to repeat the search by entering the printer's IP number.
