Resize all images in a Word file

Hello everyone,
I'm reaching out to you again, who often help me out, and I thank you for that.

Here's my problem: I've created "recipe" files or other files and I copy recipes that have text and images. To reduce the size of my files, I would like to resize the images, but I don't want to do it one by one (it's tedious), and additionally, I would also like to resize those that have been copied a long time ago. There must be a solution to do this, and I am relying on the knowledge and kindness of one of you to help me out.

    Hello,
    In my humble opinion, resizing images in Word won't change their file size, as the two are not directly linked.
    You need to modify their file size outside of Word, using an image processing software (there are many free options available), and then re-upload them into Word.
    If you no longer have the original images, you need to extract them from your Word files...

    If you need to change the size, a small macro will be necessary. Look here:

    If your images are really heavy, you need to compress them. You can do this from Word, it should be enough. To do this, click on an image, then
    - Image Format tab, Adjust group, Compress Pictures button
    - Choose the resolution 96 ppi which should be sufficient
    - uncheck the option Apply only to this picture (to compress all images)
    - and OK

      Hello Marina,
      I am happy to see you again after (a long time) you allowed me to organize my folders and files well (table of contents among other things) that I use every day and which have filled up nicely over the days.

      Thank you for your response and I try to follow your advice, but here I am still asking questions:

      Image dimensions: developer tab then macros but then I am lost!!!!

      Compressing images:
      Format - compress images: I get a window "compress images?" there is "apply to selected images only" which I do not check
      there are "options" and "compression options" and I find:
        • "automatically perform basic compression upon saving" (I think I need to check this)
        • "delete cropped areas of images" (I do not check)


      there is target output: email 96 DPI which I check

      and then "OK" and "OK"

      I have therefore changed the resolution of the images which should apply to the whole file if I'm not mistaken.

      You need to check the file size, if that part is okay.

      If you want to change the size of all your images at once, yes you need the macro. If you've never used a macro, everything is explained here :

    Hello Marina,

    Yesterday I tortured myself with macros and I admit I didn’t understand anything.

    I tried with your tutorial but I couldn’t get very far, and now when I want to close a file I end up with windows that I have to close:

    Window "Microsoft Visual Basic" that tells me "compilation error" OK

    then window "Normal-AutoExit code" I close

    Window "Microsoft Visual Basic-Normal (stop)" I close

    Window "Microsoft Visual Basic" "this command will stop the debugger" OK

    So I would like to get rid of all these windows to close and I’m going to stop torturing myself with macros and I give up my idea of modifying the size of all your images at once because for me it’s not that important.

      It's a very simple macro that shouldn't generate any errors. Now I don't know where it is, how it was copied, etc.
      To avoid these errors, the macro must be deleted.
      The Auto Exit macro is a macro that triggers on exit, but the macro I mentioned doesn't do anything like that.
