Hello,

Windows 10 is notifying me that it is performing an update and when my PC restarts... I have lost ALL my favorites!!! hundreds of lost links, without Windows bothering to inform me before offering its update.
Help me! Is it possible to recover these disappeared favorites?
Thanks in advance to the internet users who will try to help me by sharing their knowledge.

PS: Thanks Microsoft! yet another proof that your customers' privacy is the least of your concerns... I really need to roll up my sleeves to find and install an accessible free operating system (Linux) and finally throw this garbage Windows in the trash...

Hi,

Try this too, in case you have another profile.

Press Windows + R
Copy/paste:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P

See if you have another profile in the list to launch Firefox with.

Thank you, Malekal-morte, it was indeed (as you very rightly sensed) a problem related to the profiles.

After the update, the computer restarted on its own on another profile... and since I didn't dare to turn off the computer before finding my bookmarks (for fear that any hidden backup files might be deleted upon restarting), I didn't realize that I wasn't on my usual profile...

Once again, a thousand thanks!!!

It's curious nonetheless, but good for you if you succeeded.

Hello,
See here: (and they are not always called favorites but are referred to as bookmarks):

Hello Edawards.

Thank you for your quick help, unfortunately (the personal bar being already displayed but empty) there is no auto-recovery file in the library (apart from the one that was created when I restarted the computer AFTER the update). As for the profile(s), only the currently active profile appears... Windows seems to have erased EVERYTHING during its "update" in which all my general settings (folder display, wallpaper etc.) were modified, there are still some old shortcuts on the desktop but the 2 or 3 folders that were temporarily there have disappeared! It almost seems like a reinstallation of Windows has been done (but I only accepted an update like the ones that appear almost every week)....

Have my hundreds of "bookmarks" disappeared permanently???

Thanks again a thousand times, Edawards, for your generous help!

Thank you very much, Edawards and Malekal_morte, because I found ALL my bookmarks thanks to the links provided... the solution was actually there:

"After a Windows update or after modifying Windows users.
You may no longer have your favorites and bookmarks.
IT IS POSSIBLE THAT YOUR FIREFOX STARTS WITH ANOTHER PROFILE.
Your usual profile is still there, but you are not running it.
As a result, Mozilla Firefox is completely empty."

After the update, the computer restarted by itself on another profile... and since I didn’t dare to turn off the computer before finding my bookmarks (for fear that any hidden backup files might be deleted on restart), I didn’t realize that I was not on my usual profile...

Once again, a thousand thanks, Edawards and Malekal_morte, for your generous, spontaneous, and relevant help!!!
