Hello,

I bought an HP laptop running Windows 10 and a SAMSUNG SE-208 DVD writer.

However, I am unable to read DVDs even though the drive appears in Windows Explorer (when there is no DVD, but disappears when I insert a DVD), Windows indicates that the device is working properly, and the driver is up to date.

I tested the DVD drive on another HP desktop PC and it works fine.

I’ve searched online, but I haven't found a driver that allows it to work on this PC.

Thank you for your help.

Press Windows + R
Type --> devmgmt.msc and OK.

Go to CD/DVD drives
Right-click on the CD/DVD drive
Uninstall

Click on --> Action
Scan for hardware changes.

Hello

Thank you for your help but I had already done this manipulation.

I have uninstalled the driver several times and tried another driver (file cdrom.sys in system32/drivers) but it doesn’t work (I specifically copied the files cdrom.sys and cdrom.inf from the fixed PC where the drive works but it doesn't work. Maybe there are other files to copy?).

When I reconnect the USB cable, Windows reinstalls the same driver that doesn’t work, stating that the CD-ROM drive is functioning properly.
If I try to update the driver, Windows tells me that the driver version is up to date.
However, the install previous version button is grayed out.

As soon as I put a DVD in, the DVD drive disappears from Windows Explorer. You can hear the drive working but nothing happens.
