Does the green dot on Messenger mean that we are online on Messenger?

Hello,

How can you tell the difference when you're on Messenger between being connected to Facebook and connected to Messenger? The green dot on Messenger doesn't always appear, even though some Messenger contacts have the active status. (I insist on Messenger because Facebook and Messenger are
two applications that are not necessarily open together). Thank you for your responses. My boiling brain might be playing tricks on me, and I sincerely hope I'm wrong in thinking that the active status on Messenger without the green dot only applies to those active on FB but not on Messenger... and that the green dot only lights up when you are connected to Messenger (not necessarily when you are chatting, by the way).

Configuration: Android / Chrome 58.0.3029.83

Hello

Active means active, that is to say connected to the internet.
As long as you are on Wi-Fi or in an area with network coverage, you are active non-stop, including at night and even if you are not on Messenger and/or Facebook at that moment.

The green dot means online.

It depends.

If you are on Messenger and see that the other person is online, then they are definitely online on Messenger too.

But if you check from Facebook, it could be either one, impossible to know.

Hello,

This is an old topic, but have you received an answer? I'm asking the same question as you... I have a friend whose "active 1 min ago" is always displayed despite the minutes passing, while on the other hand, sometimes I see the green dot. So I would like to know if the green dot is associated with Messenger and if in Messenger the "active 1 min ago" with the unchanged time means he is connected on Facebook for example!

Thanks for replying :)
