What happens when you remove a friend on Snapchat?

Hello, I deleted a friend on Snapchat. I can no longer see their story. But when I post to my story, I still see them in the little eye icon. This means they can still see my story. My question is, since they can see my story, can they still send me a message or a snap even though I deleted them?
