Hello,
My television is a JVC, and I must say that the location of the 3.5mm jack, underneath the TV, is not easily accessible. My question is: is there a way to listen to sound through the speakers while keeping the jack plug connected, when one does not wish to use the headphones?
To your wisdom.

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 31.0

    Hello,
Plugging a jack into the headphone socket cuts off the sound from the speakers except on certain TVs where you can turn the speakers on/off, see menu.
Otherwise, what is the connection type of your headphones and the full reference of your TV?

Your TV has a digital optical audio output, you need to buy a wireless headset that has this type of input.

So if I understand correctly, I connect the converter to the audio coaxial and activate the SPDIF, which results in muting the TV speakers.
However, since this socket is normally dedicated to a home theater amplifier, will I still be able to adjust the volume of the sound going to the headphones?

No, by connecting an RCA cable to the coaxial SPDIF output, the TV sound is not necessarily muted.
It's a line-level digital output, so it is not amplified, and it's the built-in amplifier in the wireless headphones that will allow you to adjust the volume.

Well, that's not what I'm looking for! Let me be clearer: When I use the headset, I don't want any sound from the speakers. However, without unplugging the headset when I'm not using it, I still want to be able to listen to normal sound from the speakers. That said, this might not be possible!

      But of course it's possible:
      - when you want to listen through headphones, you lower the TV volume or press mute, you adjust the volume with the headphone's own control
      - If you want to listen through the TV speakers, you turn up the volume and forget about the TV headphone jack
      - your headphones can very well remain connected to the DAC
This system is particularly used by hearing-impaired individuals in families, personal headphone listening while allowing the rest of the audience to enjoy the TV sound at their preferred volume...

It's very clear, all that's left is to see the budget minister to unlock the funds.
Thank you, and consider the matter closed.
        Have a good weekend.

Always on the bridge Andy, my TV is a JVC LT-32HG82U LED and the headset is as basic as it gets, bought for a pittance at a bargain store.

Yes, but wired or wireless headphones?

Wired, but if there is a headset that can meet my desires, no problem, I'll buy it.
