Can't hear the voice on the phone receiver!

Hello,

Our Philips D405 phone was working fine until now. All of a sudden, we can't hear anything in the handset. The phone rings but when we pick up, there is no sound. We can't hear the voice of the person calling. Nothing. The same thing happens when we try to call: it rings normally but when the other person answers, we can't hear anything. It's not a problem with the answering machine, which works. It's the same situation with the other two handsets connected to the base.
Any ideas??? Thank you!!!

No abnormal display on the handsets
Is this trio phone with answering machine connected to a box?
If so, try resetting the box by cutting off its power supply for a few dozen seconds.

It worked! Thank you a thousand times. We should have thought of it earlier... all it took was to disconnect the box for a little while and everything is back in order.
