Is 1.7 GHz i5 sufficient for a casual gamer?

Hi everyone
I plan to buy my first laptop, an Asus i5 1.7 GHz with 8GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980m graphics card, all for 500 euros
What bothers me is the 1.7 GHz because I'm more of a gamer and I'm not sure if it's enough to run fairly demanding games

    Hi,

    Frequency is one thing... the type of processor is another.

    Some processors with a frequency of 1GHz are more efficient than other processors at 3GHz ;-)

    The key is to know which processor it is and how many cores it has.

    Furthermore, a processor advertised at "1.7GHz" can sometimes boost up to 3.2GHz, either through TurboBoost or other methods; there is a "normal" operating speed and a "Boost" speed on demand ;-)

      Only 500 euros for a 980M? It seems low to me...

        Then, some manufacturers attract with low prices and lousy CPUs, which is why I emphasize that it's the model of the processor that matters in this case.

        Because if it happens, he ends up with a severely throttled i5 U, barely as powerful as a budget i3 for desktops... and a totally outdated GPU, meaning he won't be able to do anything with it.

        If it's second-hand: I don't recommend it, especially for laptops; the risks are quite significant, since you can never know how it was maintained and used by the previous owner, and between individuals, for example, there's no warranty. :-)

    in Morocco? Mmmh, I can't help you except by mentioning my personal setup, which easily runs games in full HD like Rocket League and GTA V:

    -I5 6300HQ quad-core 2.3GHz (turbo 3.2GHz)
    -8G RAM
    -GTX 960M 2G
