Hello,
First message as I am completely lost. Here is the problem:
I have a Samsung MM-DC10 3.1 home theater system purchased in 2005, and I just acquired a Samsung 121 cm Full HD curved LED TV UE48J6300.
I am trying to figure out how to connect the two to get home theater sound, watch my DVDs, etc... but the connectors have changed between 2005 and 2016 and I don't even know if it's possible to connect them. How can I do this? Your help and advice would be invaluable to me. I am a total novice and completely lost. Thanks again.
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 45.0

Hello,
Your home theater has an RCA input (red and white plugs)
Your TV has a headphone output (female 3.5mm jack) and a digital optical output that we'll forget about.
The simplest and cheapest solution is to use a jack-to-RCA cable like this one:
https://www.cdiscount.com/pdt2/4/7/2/1/300x300/auc6958473481472/rw/cabling-cordon-jack-3-5-mm-stereo-2-rca-male.jpg
Connect the red and white plugs to your home theater and the black jack to the headphone socket on your TV.
Be careful, the input of the home theater is a line and the output of your TV is amplified, so don't raise the TV volume too high to avoid saturating the home theater input => distortion. You need to find the right balance, setting the home theater volume fairly high, and then you can adjust the volume with your TV remote.
Of course, you'll need to switch the home theater to this input (often labeled Aux)
Note: the TV speakers will usually be turned off

After successfully connecting yesterday to get the home cinema sound by carefully following Andy's advice above (whom I thank again), I tried to see if I could watch a DVD. I inserted the CD, switched the home cinema to CD/DVD... but there's no sound or image. I guess there must be another connection to make... but which one?
If you have any ideas or advice, I’m all ears. Once again, a big thank you.
