I would like to know about the Snapchat app, when I go to add friends at the bottom there is a quick add option where it shows me several users. What I want to know is whether these people have added me as friends or if it's a suggestion from Snapchat for me to request them as friends?

In fact, these are suggestions. They are your friends' friends based on your mutual contacts. If you have many contacts in common, Snapchat will suggest them to you, just like Facebook can do.
It can be disabled by going to the settings, then scrolling down to the "Who can ...." section. Click on "See me in Quick Add" and disable the option.
