My PC turns on and then shuts down by itself. What should I do? Solved

Hi everyone,So I have a big problem, I've changed my hardware setup: new motherboard, new CPU, new RAM, new GPU, new hard drive, new power supply, and that's already quite a lot for now, especially since I think I might have to buy a new mobo or CPU, but anyway; my problem is that I installed everything, turned it on, everything seems normal, I can access the BIOS but there's no boot from the Windows XP CD... it's normal, it's not the right drive in the boot cycle. Before changing it, I took the opportunity to set my hard drive as master and my drive as slave and since then, when I turn on the PC, the motherboard LED is on, but when I press the power button, the PC starts, the fans run, then it all stops after 2 seconds and after 5 seconds, it does the same thing in a loop.I don’t know what to do anymore, actually the GPU, hard drive, and power supply were bought due to this problem, so everything is new and less than a week old except for my burner.My setup:ASUS P5K DeluxeIntel Core 2 DUO E66002x1Go of RAM which I forgot the brand and I'm at work right nowGeForce 8500GTSeagate 400Go SATA hard driveTRUST 450W power supplySamsung SH-162 DVD burner (from memory)I’m waiting for a miracle… ;) Configuration: Windows XPInternet Explorer 6.0

If it can help someone, I had a similar problem: the PC would shut down very quickly after starting, but the duration was variable: if I waited a minute or two before restarting it, it would stay on for 15 or 20 seconds. And if I restarted it immediately, it would turn off almost right away: this suggests a temperature issue. I had just changed my motherboard while keeping the old processor: I simply forgot to put thermal paste back on. I put some back on, and since then it’s been working perfectly, no problems anymore!

For a good troubleshooting and to be able to identify the source of the problem > Obviously, we keep the processor in place, its fan connected to the CPU fan > The power supply remains connected to the motherboard > Leave only one memory stick in DIMM slot 1 > The graphics card + screen > The keyboard > The bottom connections (pw, reset,...)   We remove and unplug EVERYTHING else from the motherboard and power supply: > PCI card (white slot) > Hard drive, CD/DVD/ROM/RAM/RW > All USB ports (except the keyboard if it is USB; change the port if it crashes) > The network > And ABOVE ALL, the IDE cables and SATA connections (those that connect the hard drives, CD/DVD/RW/RAM to the motherboard). The goal is to know at what point it stops working: it could be from the start, due to the motherboard or the processor.  Next, we test the RAM (the sticks), first one in DIMM slot 1, then alternatively in the following slots. Then, we test two sticks (in dual channel, don't forget to put identical sticks in matching color slots)  Next comes the turn of a hard drive (the one with the operating system (Windows or Linux for example) Then the other hard drive if there is more than one ;-)   After that, we reinsert the PCI cards. Well, I did some tests again when I got home tonight:  I put the motherboard back in, reconnected the buttons and the power supply, but it's still the same  I did a "real" clear CMOS (didn't know about the jumper :p) and now it's working normally! Yay  I reconnect the graphics card and the keyboard and it's still okay  I connect the hard drive, it's still recognized under the BIOS  I connect the DVD burner (which is set as slave) and we're back to square one X(  I try a clear CMOS but nothing changes  I unplug everything except for the strict minimum, but no better even with a CMOS clear  I don't understand anything anymore except that I don't think it's the burner that's the problem, but unfortunately, I couldn't test it elsewhere...  There you go, if this can inspire some of you, I'm looking forward to your comments

Hello, It might be a silly problem as you say. Before smashing everything in your PC, try pressing it once (as the Belgians say) for a short duration. I've noticed that if you hold down the ON/OFF button for too long at the start, it causes the shutdown in a few seconds. I think the problem comes neither from the BIOS nor from the power supply or ..., but rather from the small power-up sequencer of the PC. Best, Capitainexa

but otherwise to access the BIOS at startup there is the DELETE key and then you press F5 and there you go the BIOS is reset to default as originally.

Hi FRG  For your problem, I had pretty much the same thing  I don't think your motherboard is dead  but it's possible that you forgot to put in the standoffs or the screws  On ASUS motherboards, don't forget to put ALL the standoffs and ALL the screws that hold the motherboard   Otherwise, a good way to test it is to remove it from the case and lay it flat with the bare minimum to see if it works   For me, I had the same thing happen; it worked for 6 months, then one day out of nowhere, it wouldn't start  I took everything out and then by some miracle, everything worked normally  So I put in all the standoffs and screws, and then it worked again   Good luck

I had this problem on 2 Packard Bell desktop PCs  it was the power button on the front  as soon as it turns on, unplug the cable connected to the motherboard and see if it stays on  best regards
