How to record HD TV channels on Toshiba DVR80KF

Hello, I have a television that meets MPEG4 standards and receives the 6 new HD channels. The problem is that my DVD/VCR recorder TOSHIBA DVD80KF is in MPEG2 and can only record from digital terrestrial television (TNT). For now, it's fine for me. But in 2016, when all channels will be in HD, will it be possible to connect an MPEG4 decoder solely for my recorder? I'm not sure if it will be useful since my television is already MPEG4.     your recorder will be able to record all the HD channels while you watch another channel on the TV

      Thank you for your super quick response. I'm a bit overwhelmed; I'm 70 years old. If I understand correctly, the decoder will be able to detect something on my recorder other than my TV, which is in MPEG4. The latter picks up the 6 new channels well, but my recorder didn't recognize them when I did the update. Thank you for your help.

      tv mpeg4 = 25 channels
      mpeg2 recorder = 16 channels
      mpeg2 recorder + mpeg4 decoder = 25 channels
      is it clear like this???

        I understand better, I'm abusing your knowledge, I've already looked for the possible purchase of an MPEG4 decoder, but what bothers me is that they all have the USB recording function PVR. I was afraid it might not be compatible with my recorder? Thank you for your help. amoi

        Yes, and so ???
        If you don't plug in a USB key (or hard drive), the function doesn't exist, period.

        The only thing to check when purchasing is that the connection (SCART and/or HDMI) is compatible with your recorder's connection.
