Hello everyone
I have an LG RC185 DVD recorder/player that I've had for a year and my problem is the following: when I insert a burned or purchased DVD, it says no disc and it's impossible to read or do anything else with the media. Please, can someone tell me what I should do? Thank you in advance, everyone.

Good evening
I just repaired my RC185 burner and it was a piece of cake
I found a complete laser block on eBay (seller: brelect.fr) with free shipping (there are still 16 days left to order it) for €89.70 and I saved about €90 on repair costs at a professional.
I can now record again with my burner-

Hello everyone
I am sending my complaint letter
to D.D.C.R.F.
6 bd Oise
95000 CERGY
against the company LG Electronics France
PARIS NORD II - 117, Avenue des Nations
B.P. 59372 VILLEPINTE - 95942 ROISSY CDG CEDEX
for hidden defects as defined by Article 1641 of the Civil Code.
If you're interested, I can send you a copy of my letter
don't forget to reference it as a collective to raise awareness with the DDCRF
you should also send a copy to LG and to UNC QUE CHOISIR
best regards to everyone-
Hello
I appreciate your letter, it’s a gift for my retirement, it has been 2 years, and I started using it at the beginning of the year. I’ve burned CDs for my son and he can't play them on his player, and I can't read new DVDs, and I’ve copied all my useful documents from tapes and thrown the tapes away?? So disappointed,
thank you for the template
Best regards

Hello, I am interested in a copy of your letter to the DDCRF because I also have a problem with an LG RH188H that sometimes freezes and continuously displays the message "please wait" until it is unplugged. It is still under warranty and has been sent for repair twice with the same problem each time. I believe they are either unable or unwilling to carry out a serious repair. I plan to take action after the warranty period (in 1 month) if my issue is not resolved.
Furthermore, I have noticed that since it has this malfunction, when turned on, it no longer takes control of the TV to which it is connected, meaning that the LG is permanently connected to the AV1 input of my TV, and when the LG is turned on, the TV should automatically switch to AV1 to watch the LG's programs. I would like to know if anyone else has the same issue.
Best regards. -

Hello, I had the same problem (please wait) LG changed the motherboard under warranty, it worked for 5 more months and now there's no sound when I record. It's no longer under warranty and the motherboard is dead again. 200 euros to repair it, so I've given up, they are a bunch of crooks who don't even know how to properly repair their products.

Good evening everyone
I have owned an LG RH188H home DVD recorder since August 2006, and it has recently stopped reading or recording DVDs, which is a well-known issue for this type of device. Since the warranty has expired, I decided to repair this recorder myself. I will keep you updated on "my DIY project." -
HELLO, just a little note to say that I am following the procedure indicated for my piece of s..... reader, complaint to DDCRF + UFC + Canard Enchaîné, we'll see how it goes, we need to ruin LG...!
ciao!-
Hello,
Thanks to everyone who is trying to help with these recurring issues with LG DVD burners/players.
As long as we're under warranty (limited to 1 year with LG), it's better to go through customer service.
After that, we have to acknowledge that the LG equipment you own might end up costing you a lot since it is incredibly fragile, judging by what I read on various forums dedicated to this topic (LG recorder/player from the RC series) and by my own experience.
I had already been burned in 2003 by a Philips DVD player I bought at FNAC for over 500 euros that ended up in the trash 2 years later.
Now, it's the recognition of DVDs on the super multi DVD/VHS player RC 299 H that is out of order, and this is the second time in less than 2 years, even though I use it no more than twenty times a year.
So, if we want to reasonably get this equipment to work again, what is the solution? Either pay a lot by going through customer service with no guarantee that the same issue won't happen again (which has happened to me), or do what some have done: carefully disassemble it (especially when it's unplugged) and use the advice of others to try to fix the defect (after all, what do we have to lose since, in any case, if we leave it as is, it’s like having a dead weight in our living room that is cluttering us).
Last remark which won't please some: I suggest boycotting the LG brand for DVD products and the Philips brand for its unscrupulous management and its disrespectful customer service.
I share the idea of taking legal action against these unscrupulous manufacturers as long as they refuse to acknowledge their share of responsibility in marketing insufficiently reliable equipment (a breakdown can happen), but when testimonies converge, the least they can do to maintain their brand image and not shirk their responsibilities is to acknowledge their faults and take the necessary action.
Cheers to everyone!

Hello,
I apologize for my late response, as I just came across your post dealing with the same problem: "no disc" whenever I insert a DVD since a burning finalization failed. Try a cleaning CD; otherwise, I’m quite pessimistic for you because on my side, I dismantled the combo and connected the burner to my PC: it doesn’t work either, then I took apart the burner while being careful not to look at the laser of course, and actually, the motor doesn’t start!! I contacted LG because of course it happened in the 13th month: no commercial gesture on their part, I currently have a quote from the company providing their spare parts www.nedis.fr. In the meantime, I’m looking into the possibility of replacing the GDA-4164L burner with an internal PC burner of the same brand: someone did this with an LG RH188 and a GSA-4167 burner.
I hope this information helps you. Good luck.
Best regards.-
Hello,
I have the same reader, the same problems but I am still under warranty.
Initializing DVD RW + or - is not completely impossible 100% of the time but completely random.
Some commercial DVDs are read after several unsuccessful attempts.
A general reset (power cut) allows, in some cases, to successfully read a DVD.
In short, it's very frustrating!
Audio CD Rs seem to be less affected. I still have one or two that won't play on this player but work perfectly fine on another, even though it's an older model (Pioneer laser disc).
I contacted the distributor who referred me to LG France.
So I'm waiting for a response from LG to find out where I should drop off the device.
Being a trained technician, I have little hope regarding this kind of problem. (Misaligned reader sensitivity of the lens or a software bug: needs to be confirmed anyway!)
I can keep you updated on the outcome,
Best regards.

Good evening,
Luck has a way of working things out. I just today retrieved my device which had been sent for repair to LG's subcontractor located in the suburbs of Bordeaux.
The customer service could only acknowledge my comments noting: "random playback and recording".
They therefore changed the CD player and the tests I performed this evening are conclusive.
The repair took about 15 days, which is reasonable.
I paid 12 Euros for shipping, but the warranty worked.
Here are the contact details of the repair company mandated by LG:
CIRMA ELECTRONICS ZI de la lande, Atelier LG, 10 to 14 chemin de Barateau 33451.ST Loubes cedex
You send your device with a short letter explaining the defect and a photocopy of the invoice.
Best regards. -

It's quite strange, I just read your posts about the issue of disk recognition by a home DVD burner, and I can confirm that, owning the LG DVDR 198H burner, I have exactly the same problem as you, namely that the internal DVD player is useless. I had to send my burner to CIRMA Electronics (it cost me 14 euros in shipping fees). In short, it is clear that LG home burners have a serious problem with the internal DVD player, which is nothing more than a PC DVD burner!
The next time, I'll forget this brand. -
At the beginning, the recognition of discs (reading and writing) was random, resulting in the player getting stuck, which required disconnecting it from the power supply (reset) to restart it. This operation became necessary more frequently, indicating a more serious problem.
In fact, the current issue... the burner is not recognizing any discs, regardless of whether it is a DVD or an audio CD that you insert.
I am waiting for the device's return from the service center and will keep you updated.

Hello,
same DVD recognition problem ("no DVD") thanks LG rc185 purchased at Top Achat...
I was unaware of the issues with LG, but I knew about the customer service at Top Achat and their 'not great' products! !
what do you advise me, for this purchase of a combined LG DVD recorder VHS that is 16 months old? ?
TD -
To respond to Thierryvivi, I think we shouldn't necessarily blame Top Achat. Personally, I bought from Planet Discount and had the same problem. On the other hand, the company mandated by LG, "CIRMA ELECTRONIQUE," doesn’t seem incompetent.
My humble opinion is that this device seems a bit light to recognize all formats. (That’s just my opinion)
Since my repair, everything is almost in order. It correctly burns DVD RW and R, but some audio CD R remain unreadable even though there are no issues with older CD players. Progress isn’t always up to our expectations.
In any case, I think you can trust CIRMA to repair your device, maybe still asking for a quote.
As for me, I will not buy LG again and I will no longer purchase this type of device online.
Best regards. -
Good evening
I have exactly the same problem and it has been going on for several months
Purchased from Topachat in June 2006, the issues started earlier this year, I contacted LG who did not acknowledge the breakdown and obviously the warranty has expired, so they don’t want to hear anything anymore, yet I reached out to them before the warranty ended
No gesture on their part, their product is very reliable, they do not want to acknowledge the weaknesses of their products
What do you advise me?
They told me to send it to Bordeaux for an estimate but since it is no longer under warranty, I don’t trust them
Thank you in advance -
Hello,
I have an LG DR 198H burner since September 2006 and up to now, everything has been fine.
For the past week, it fails to read as soon as I insert the DVD. Since it is no longer under warranty, I disassembled it first for a cleaning ==> same result, so I'm moving to the next step.
After reading various forums about this brand and type of product, I conclude that the laser unit is dead. I tried to replace the entire unit (I confirm it's just a micro burner installed but with a specific fixing) reference 6721R N021A, but only one online store offers it for around €90. I'm looking for a brick-and-mortar store in the Rhône Alpes region.
Can we install another burner in its place?
If you have any information, I would appreciate it.
Thank you
See you soon -

I replaced the DVD burner with another one, which is the LG H55NR, priced at €27 at ULTRA MEDIA, 184 rue de Charenton, Paris 12th.
So far, everything works normally: playback of audio CDs, recorded DVDs, DIVX, burning from HDD to DVD -RW, for now, everything is OK.
The problem is mechanical; this burner doesn't fit in the designated space, the original burner having been specially designed to incorporate perfectly into the device. I will therefore cut the top part of the device to connect the power connector and the SATA connector. I will secure the new burner with 4 screws on the cover, and that's it. Admittedly, the aesthetics will "take a hit," but oh well, and besides, if this burner breaks down.... but let's be optimistic. If the same problem arises again, I will keep you updated.
Good evening, everyone.

Hello!
You are absolutely right when you say that the built-in burners in LG are PC burners.
I did the same operation as you; it's true that you have to fiddle around to integrate another burner, but that's a bit normal.
For my part, I bought a Samsung burner, I installed it and as a new feature, it formats DVDs, but refuses to record, it ejects the disc.
Do you have a solution, despite the improved recognition and formatting of DVDs?

Graver LG RH 188 continued...
After various tests, "mister" only burns 4x RW discs, I think the burner isn't the only one with "weaknesses"; however, reading CDs, DIVX, and all kinds of DVDs is fine. LECLER is "dumping" a 177 from €249 to ....€129 if anyone is interested, I'm good, I'll stick with my DIY burner as long as it works...
Until next time -
I am currently having big problems with the company CIRmA from Bordeaux, which has still not been able to solve my issue with the LG DBRH197 DVD player for 5 months! On the side of LG France and its customer service, it's a disaster! No one calls you back!
LG is DONE!-
I learn that you have been successful in your claim. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but anyone can be mistaken.
As for my personal case, my device works more or less well, and it would be quite difficult for me to put together a file to justify the malfunction.
In daily use, I find it noisy, particularly with audio CDs where we sometimes wish to hear silence. It is certainly not the only one, and it will personally be a technical choice that I will take into account for a future purchase.
Best regards.

Hello,
To make a bad pun, LG is light.
And for commercial gestures, don’t dream, they hardly exist anymore.
The only gesture that is developing well is rapid payment.
Our best defense is to stop buying a product from this brand.
Best regards -
I confirm I had the same misadventure with my LG 188H
a year later, increasing difficulties reading DVDs, whether blank or commercial
after insisting, it eventually works, but then you must absolutely not put it in sleep mode; otherwise, it's a new hassle
LG support diplomatically sends you packing
-------- it's broken, and it's not possible that many users are complaining about the same issue "forums are not official" (quote)-----
meanwhile, what's official is that I refuse to have it repaired and I'll buy elsewhere. From now on, I boycott LG. -
I propose to you:
the entire RH series from 177 to 199 has the same hidden flaw
we just need to agree
to take a common action to simultaneously contact the fraud enforcement services and "UFC Que Choisir"
with a bit of publicity in "Le Canard Enchaîné"
this should make LG think. -
My LG RH188 is definitely out of order, despite replacing the recorder with an LG H55NR, this wonderful home recorder got stuck on "PLEASE WAIT," and nothing worked. The warranty is expired, so it ended up in the trash (14 months of use, not bad). I kept the hard drive: a 160 GB Seagate (which works very well as an external drive), and the LG H55NR recorder, but it works just as poorly in a home recorder as it does in a computer. So LG is done for me considering that according to the forums, a lot of users have problems.

Hello everyone
I have had an LG RC185 for about 2 years:
I encountered the same problem as you all this Friday: when inserting a recorded or purchased DVD, it says no disc
After opening and cleaning the device, nothing improved.
So I replaced the disc reading and writing module.
The replacement model is:
Lite-On DVD/CR Rewritable Drive, model 50HW-832S
A modification of the mounting (two brackets) and cutting a few pieces of plastic (around the tray) and it's done
Good luck to everyone.
