Hi everyone,

I have a little problem booting from a USB stick with this PC.

Let me explain, a friend dropped this PC and it wouldn't start normally anymore. He asked me to install Windows 7 instead of 8 after I retrieved some data for him.

The hard drive is working as I was able to copy what he wanted to recover using Testdisk.

I created a bootable USB stick to install Windows 7, but when I go into the BIOS (the BIOS is an InsydeH20 rev 3.7), it doesn't detect my USB stick in the boot tab; there is indeed USB, but no hardware reference follows.

I tried all the USB ports on the PC and it doesn't work...

Do you know how to fix this issue?

    Re hello,

    I solved my problem, actually it’s a BIOS "UEFI". I'm not sure if this is the BIOS that’s called that, anyway let’s move on... From what I understood, these BIOS have a security feature that prevents booting from an external system, so you have to disable this feature to be free to boot wherever you want.

    - First, you need to access the BIOS (F2 key for me)

    - Go to the "Security" tab using the right and left arrows

    - In the "HDD/SSD Password" section:
    The mode should be set to [User] press enter and choose [Master+User]

    - Then go to the "Advanced" tab

    - At the bottom, "System Configuration" press Enter.

    - Select "Boot Mode" which should be set to [UEFI Boot] press Enter and choose [CSM Boot]

    - Press the escape key once to return to the "Advanced" tab.

    - Go to the "Boot" tab, which is on the right, second to last before "Exit".

    - Finally, using the F5 and F6 keys, configure your boot order as you wish. If the USB key is recognized and the hardware reference appears, you’re good to go!

    - Press F10, answer "Yes" and the PC will restart

    It worked for me after looking for a while, I admit...

      Rooooh lala!!! A huge thank you! I've been on a friend's computer for 48 hours, and I couldn't boot up anything except Ubuntu... And now it worked perfectly on a Toshiba C870D-121!

      it worked right away, I didn't have this detail in the other tutorials WELL DONE

    Hello,

    I followed the procedure outlined above, but unfortunately, I cannot access "Boot mode" because it is grayed out!
    Does anyone have any ideas?

      Excellent, well found, a thousand thanks. Why make it complicated when we can keep it simple? If it's for theft protection, it doesn't protect anything at all, Mr. Toshiba.
