Hello everyone,

I have a problem that I can't solve: I need to work on .tiff files in Photoshop; the goal is to remove the white background from the image before inserting it into my website, just like I regularly do with .png files.

However, Photoshop doesn't allow me to save my image as .png, so I can't do it. I initially thought it might be due to the file being too large to save as .png (55MB), but even after reducing it to the maximum (less than 1MB), I still can't save it as .png.

Using various methods to convert it before working on it (online, or saving as jpeg then png...), the image deteriorates (acceptable quality but very dull colors or deep blacks turning gray...).

My question is: how can I save it as .png without altering the colors of the image?
Because I think that's the simplest solution, but I can't find a satisfactory conversion...

Thank you in advance for your help,
Best regards

Make sure that your TIF image is not in CMYK; images in this color space cannot be saved in PNG format.

Convert to RGB before working on your images and keep the source by saving the edited image under a different name.

Hello,

JPEG is a destructive format (permanent quality loss with each save).

How to convert to .png without altering the colors of the image?

There are several versions of the PNG format: PNG-8 and PNG-24 are the most common and versatile; the former allows for a maximum of 256 colors, while the latter supports 16 million. The first is perfect for graphic images with solid colors and will have the advantage of being lightweight, while the second can display photos but will be much heavier.

Note: 1 MB is an unusual size for a web file.

Thank you for your response, but I was able to find the same files in slightly lower quality, which allowed me to work with that.
