Hello, I'll explain my problem: I want to buy a laptop to watch movies in high quality and especially to play games like SimCity or The Sims.
Being not very good with computers, I have still spotted two laptops.
Here is the first one:

-ASUS N76VZ

Processor: Intel® Core(TM) i7 3630QM 2.40 GHz ~ 3.40 GHz

Operating System: Windows 8

Chipset: Intel® HM76 Express

Memory: DDR3 1600 MHz SDRAM, 6144 MB

Screen: 17.3" 16:9 Resolution 1920 x 1080 (Full HD), LED backlight, anti-glare

Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M 4GB DDR3 VRAM

Storage: 1.5 TB, 7200 RPM, dual hard drive support

I read some forums saying that the graphics card doesn't have good performance for games that utilize high graphics (Battlefield), but I don't know what it's like for the games I want to play...!
So I found a second one:

-ASUS N76VB

Processor: Intel® Core(TM) i5 3230M 2.60 GHz ~ 3.20 GHz

Operating System: Windows 8

Chipset: Intel® HM76 Express

Memory: DDR3 1600 MHz SDRAM, 4096 MB

Screen: 17.3" 16:9 Resolution 1600 x 900 (HD+), LED backlight, anti-glare

Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M 2 GB DDR3 VRAM

Storage: 1 TB 7200 RPM, dual hard drive support

So here are two different laptops. My budget is around €1000, which one do you recommend? Feel free to give me your opinions, whether positive or negative!
Best regards

Well, it's a better graphics card, with a better processor (than my desktop PC), but at least for games, 4GB of RAM is the minimum, 6GB is good, so the first one is perfect. All the new games run smoothly with the first PC:

    ASUS N76VZ (it's a gaming PC, haha)

well, no! Already a gtx 650 is far from making all games run in super quality, so what does that mean on a laptop^^
You shouldn't confuse gtx xxx and gtx xxxM
I also play a lot and for the future use he will make of it, 4GB is sufficient. For movies, any graphics card is good, but for games...
For The Sims, it surely works, but you don't know what you'll be doing or what you'll be playing in a year or more... And if you don't want to be forced to buy a new PC for other games, it's better to invest in good hardware ;)

    Hi!
In both cases, these PCs are good for movies. But you stick with a laptop! Laptops heat up quickly and have to rely on a battery, which means they're not as performant as a desktop... Here, I think the first PC you're talking about is better because the processor is more powerful and the graphics card is too! In terms of memory/HDD, they're both good!
But I advise you not to rely solely on ASUS because other brands make very good PCs too (don't get me started on Alienware, it's just that you pay 1000€ more for an alien head :p). For example, MSI makes good PCs as well...
But if you could post the links to the stores where you find them, it would be more convenient for us to help you choose your PC ;)
But I think that for SIMS and SimCity, they are more than sufficient!
To be sure, check out https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri
after that, you can choose to see the minimum/recommended configuration.

    I'm telling you, you should listen to Nael1, he's right, Asus products are overpriced and apart from paying for the brand, you don't gain anything else;

and that way you can buy a good fan for your laptop to prevent overheating during gaming

For your store, check out general retailers such as LDLC, materiel.net, rue du commerce, pixmania, in short, online...
I also advise you to buy online; it’s so much cheaper ;)

Yes, I checked the price of the Asus N76VZ on Amazon:

    https://www.amazon.fr/Asus-Multim%C3%A9dia-N76VZ-V4G-T1153H-Ordinateur-Aluminium/dp/B009L3HZBY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375016802&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+n76vzV4G-T1153H

Can you suggest other affordable laptops because, as I remind you, I'm not good with computers....!

    Hi,

GT 650m or GT 740m, it's the same graphics card renamed.

The N76VZ is better because it has an i7 4-core, while the i5-3230m is just a dual-core; it also has a larger storage capacity and 6 GB of RAM.

For €850, here’s what you can get:

    Asus R900VB-YZ046H, 18.4" Full HD
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM Quad Core 2.4 GHz
    RAM: 8 GB DDR3
    HDD: 1 TB
    Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GT 740M
    Webcam
    SDHC card reader
    OS: Windows 8

Ideal for videos and gaming, but a bit heavy (4kg), more of a "transportable" than a laptop.

nope, 650m vs 740m, I think the 650 takes the lead (strongly).

No, the GT740m and the GT 650m are identical... look at this table:

      http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2013/05/15/130515101700826160.png

they are on the same level as a GT 640 of a desktop PC.

Here, you are relying on theoretical data, but if you travel through the forums, you can also see, for example, different comparisons from your table (which I certainly do not dispute) http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GT-740M-vs-GeForce-GT-650M
certainly, the fight is close, but the 650 wins ^^

For the DDR3 models, the 650 is fine, but for the GDDR5 models, they are the same...

Or, this is starting to get a bit complex for me.....

Uh, the link http://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_cat_est_ordinateurs_puis_rubrique_est_wport_puis_ref_est_in10071679.htm indicates a 2GB graphics card while earlier you told me that a 4GB one is better.... *---*l

Sorry, error 404. The graphics card it mentioned was: NVIDIA Geforce GT740M 2GB - Optimus technology.

    Hi

take this one, it's much better, I specify that even with a GT740m = GT650m and these two are capable of gaming, some on high and medium, others low and a few ultra, this card is very good for a multimedia mix and moderate gaming.

I'll send you the link to the PC that will surely please you

    https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00151038.html

and the screenshot of the graphics card comparison table, to see where it stands compared to the higher model, for example this one is superior to the GTX660, and it's a GT750m

One last question about the SimCity site; it recommends the GTX 275 graphics card. Is it equivalent to the two graphics cards I mentioned to you?

the GTX models are superior to the GTS, GT, and GS models. They are specifically developed for gaming

      the GT750m (GDDR5) is equivalent to a GTX 660m or a GTX 650

No, the GTX 275 is more powerful than the GT750m

      GTX275 = GTX680m
      GT750m = GTX660m
