Busy character issue in State of Decay

Hello,
I recently acquired the game State of Decay on Xbox 360 (very good game that I recommend)
but here’s the problem: I can no longer change character. When I’m in the journal and I press X on Marcus's head, my current character says something like, "it's not possible," and a message appears saying it’s impossible to change characters while the current one is busy. I’ve searched for Marcus everywhere in the church and in the town with no luck, and this happened with another character too.
I hope I’ve been as clear as possible.

I've never played this game, but I've experienced it in a few PC games; sometimes you can't switch because you absolutely have to perform an action with the character you currently have...
