Disable the startup password on a Toshiba Satellite C660

After a lot of hassle following a hard drive change and being blocked by a BIOS password, I finally managed to access my BIOS only to realize that I can't boot my PC from USB, so it's CD required.

My PC is a Toshiba Satellite L670-14E.

It asked me for a password. WTF, I didn’t remember setting one. Anyway, here’s what I did to get there and it's super simple:

1/ Download Toshiba Assist from their site
2/ Launch it and go to the "Secure" item
3/ You have 2 options: "Supervisor Password" and "User Password"
4/ For the Supervisor Password, you will have 2 choices to make:
- The first is if you are blocked by a password when accessing the BIOS. So you check "No," save, and try all the possible passwords that may have been entered to validate the choice

- The second, you need to check "Capable of executing FW Setup" if it’s not checked.

Then for the User Password, if it’s checked, you need to uncheck it and recheck it to set the password you chose earlier.

There you go, hoping to help others because it took me 3 hours to find the solution.

So I struggled a lot and I blame myself for not trying this sooner.

In the PDF I downloaded from the internet (LA-7202p, model of my motherboard) it says JPW reset password.

You simply need to short-circuit JPW and turn on the PC while keeping the jumper short-circuited and wait for the PC to turn off by itself, that’s it!

Be careful, the BIOS is a bit slower than usual.

It’s important to note that you need:
- A memory module in the top slot (if there's no memory, no boot)
- Only short-circuit this jumper (I used a paperclip that I unfolded, flattened a bit on the end, twisted it a bit to bypass the memory)
The more anxious ones can put tape on their paperclip or use a plastic one just stripped at the end

For those still looking for JPW, it is under the memory sticks and you need to remove the protective plastic from the motherboard.

I'm sure I've helped more than one person with this, as the method isn’t clearly explained anywhere.
