Hello,
I have a problem on Windows 7 for the past two or three days. When I go to: Computer > Downloads, an error message appears:
"Location not available
C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Downloads is not accessible.
Access denied."
I can no longer open it or access my downloaded files.

look for it in C:\Users\<your-user-name>\Downloads

ok well,
Have you tried fixing the download shortcut by right-clicking on it > Properties
then in "Target" put the correct path back?

Uh, yes indeed, upon reflection, it doesn't make any sense for my files to end up in Windows\System32.
It's working again by changing the target. However, my file is still mysteriously missing. No worries, I'll download it again.
Thanks to both of you.

I can indeed access it this way, but it does not solve my problem at all. It is not normal to no longer be able to access it directly. Moreover, the last downloaded file I am looking for is not present in c:\Users\Name\Downloads... even though it is supposed to be there. It appears in the downloads list when I click on the arrow at the top right under Firefox...
It smells like a virus all over this story. Follow the disinfection advice, there are plenty found on this forum ;)

I did a complete disinfecting the day before yesterday! Everything went through: Ccleaner, Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, ZHPDiag, fix... I had some nasties that have all been removed.
Hello Woodstock76,
First of all, I don't see why your download files are arriving here!
They should arrive here: C:\Users\your PC name\Downloads.
What we can do:
Start your browser,
for Chrome:
- in the upper right corner (under the 'X' to close the internet)
- click on the icon that looks like three lines stacked on top of each other and choose the 'Settings' option.
- here, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'Show advanced settings'.
- further down, you will find the line "Downloads" with the text below: "Save files to this folder."
- at this point, change the path by entering
<C:\Users\your PC name\Downloads
there you go.
for Mozilla:
- in the "Firefox" button in the upper left, click on it, then choose 'Options' and again 'Options'.
- here in the 'General' tab, you will find Downloads with the option to save files to this folder.
- click on 'Browse' and navigate to "C:\", then "Users", then to the folder named after your PC, and finally "Downloads".
- Don't forget to click 'OK' before exiting.
There you go.
For Explorer:
- in the upper right corner, click on the tools wheel (just under the close button of the internet) and click on 'Show downloads'.
- at the bottom of this window, you will find the 'Options' link, click on it.
- in this window, click on 'Browse' to give the download path: C:\, then "Users", then to the folder named after your PC, and finally "Downloads".
- Don't forget to click 'OK' before closing.
There you go.
Happy downloading. passor ;)
