My downloads are being automatically deleted. Solved

Hello,

I have a big problem with my downloads: When I download a file, the download starts normally, and I see the unfinished download in my downloads folder, but as soon as the download is complete, the file automatically disappears and when I open the downloads page, next to my download, it says "deleted".
This is true for both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, so I don't think it's a browser issue. I've looked everywhere on the internet. I've seen that other people have had this problem, so I tried their solutions: CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in case it was a virus: no results. I think it's something on my end and that there's a problem with my downloads folder, but I'm not tech-savvy enough to fix it.
Does anyone have an idea?

Hello,

As I saw your previous topic, I see that you've already done some research and haven't found the solution.

I suggest you do the following even if you find it strange to use IE (Internet Explorer).

Try downloading using IE, and if it doesn't work either, check if you see the following message when you click on the download link: "Your current security settings do not allow you to download this file"..

If that's the case: look at the security settings (Tools/Internet Options/Security/Internet/Custom Level), in the dropdown menu, at the very bottom, the "File Download" box is likely to be set to "Disabled" - check "Enable" and confirm.

Then try downloading again with IE, and if it works, it should also work with other browsers.

Use the method by tapping the F8 key at startup and not the method with the system configuration utility.

If it works, it will mean there is something on the PC that is interfering with your downloads and you'll need to dig deeper...

I had the same problem on Vista with the latest version of Chrome and IE9
I use Microsoft Security Essentials as antivirus

I had an old installation of AVG8 lingering around.
After searching on English websites I found a solution here

In summary, it suggests checking if you have these 2 files on your computer and renaming them to .bak instead of .dll:

c:\program files\AVG\AVG10\avgoff2kx.dll
c:\programdata\MFAData\SelfUpd\avgoff2kx.dll

I only had the first of the two in an equivalent directory but \AVG8 instead of AVG10 due to the version I had before.

In short, the solution to the problem is quite unlikely, especially since I had totally disabled AVG, but it works...
