My IE favorites are not working anymore!

Good evening!
I have a small problem: Yesterday, I wanted to replace my Wanadoo space with the Orange one... Everything went well, I restarted the PC, surfed the web without any issues, I have my new Orange space working fine and my internet favorites were still functioning... until today!!! I still have my favorites list but they are all outdated! Not a single one works! So I don't know if it's related to the update, but it's the first time this has happened to me...
I went to the Favorites folder on C: and apparently, it doesn't recognize the file type for all the favorites...
Can you help me? It's becoming bothersome...
Thank you in advance.

Hi.
What type of connection are you using? Livebox? Modem, Ethernet? Wifi?
Which Windows are you using?
From Internet Explorer, do you know how to export favorites?

The two coexist very well. You can't remove IE6...

You'll need to go into your favorites and restore them one by one indeed. I don't know what happened.

To prevent the Orange programs:

Go to the Start menu / Run and type msconfig
Select the Startup tab.
Between the words Command and Location, you see a small gray line. Click on it, hold the click and move your mouse to the right to stretch the lines.
You should see a ton of things that are checked, well you look at what they correspond to and uncheck the Orange stuff...
After that, take the opportunity to disable everything that is useless (skype, google, winzip, real, canon, java, yahoo...). It doesn't remove them from the PC, it just prevents them from starting with Windows.

After, when you're done, click Apply, OK.

Restart your PC, a window will pop up, click on the box at the bottom left and there you go.
You’ll see that your PC runs faster and shuts down faster

If you've removed too many things, you can recheck them...

I still have my favorites list but they're all outdated!

Are you talking about those in Internet Explorer?

To export them (so you don't make any mistakes):
Go see the operation titled "To export your bookmarks, proceed as follows:"
On this page:
http://www.linternaute.com/internetpratique/explorer/favoris/backup.shtml

Then, try to get them back in Explorer. Then check if it works.

yes, those from internet explorer...
so I did the manipulation: exported my favorites, deleted them, then reimported them but they still don't work...
Any other ideas, doctor? lol
anyway, thanks already for the quick replies! ;-)

It's good to accept using FIREFOX.
When installing, you'll see that it offers to import favorites from IE, so don't forget to put them back in IE before installing Firefox. (You said you had removed them).
Regarding the differences between IE and Firefox, you may not necessarily notice them. But it is definitely much more secure than that sieve of IE.
A comparison from 2004:
http://emmanuel.clement.free.fr/404.html
Since then, this has been confirmed.

It's done, Firefox is installed, I've imported my bookmarks, they're there and... they don't work either!!! Ha ha!
However, the new ones I add in Firefox work...
Weird, weird...
I'm afraid I'll have to search for them one by one...

2 Questions:

1) I haven't removed IE6 yet... should I do that or can the two coexist without issues?

2) I'd also like to be able to do without this Orange browser and connect directly to the internet without going through this cumbersome thing... where can I find a fairly detailed procedure to do this the right way?

Thanks again for everything!

I have a big problem, I can no longer add sites to my favorites while a week ago I could still do it! Can "my favorites" be reactivated? If so, please let me know how to do it.
Thank you in advance.

Yeah, well that's not very helpful...
I don't understand why your favorites are altered.
Have you checked if you could add new ones?
Have you looked at their properties to see if they have correct syntax?

How many do you have? I'm asking because there is a bit of a tedious way that could restore them.
Otherwise, instead of surfing with IE6, you could use a much better browser: firefox

By installing it, you'll be more secure and it might allow you to recover the faulty favorites from IE.

No, the new ones I'm adding aren't working either;
I have a good hundred favorites;
and as for Firefox, if it's really better and could solve the problem, then let's go for it!!!
However, on this PC, I have 2 different user accounts, I've already backed up the favorites earlier, now I'll back up those from the other user (which aren't working anymore either...
But what is Firefox going to change for me? What are the differences with IE6?

Okay, it's done, but the problem now is that by disabling everything related to Wanadoo/Orange, when I restart the PC and want to connect to the internet, I have to relaunch the Orange connection kit...
What I want is to go online by simply double-clicking the Firefox icon on my desktop... and not having to go through that damn Orange connection kit... and this for both accounts on this PC;
I heard that I needed to create a connection manually and I don't know how to do that...

It's very easy to do.
The trouble is that you need to know your modem's call number to Orange. This number appears in the properties of your current connection.
We'll do some tests if you want.
So, if you've unchecked some Orange stuff in the msconfig manipulation, recheck them.
I'll give you the instructions for creating the connection tomorrow because I'm feeling a bit out of it.

go to start menu, connections, show all connections.
Delete the new connection you created.

I know where the error is. But your modem needs to be installed and recognized by Windows. Install it if you haven't already.

Then, again:
start menu, connections, show all connections.
Then, at the top left, create a new connection / next / choose set up a connection to the Internet / next / configure manually / next / choose remote access modem / next / choose the modem / next / give a name (e.g. wanadoo or orange) / next / phone number (that's where it might get stuck, try 0000000) / next / username (fti/ your codes on the paper from orange) then the connection password from orange / next / finish.

Then try to connect with the new icon that will be on your desktop.
If it works, you can redo the process but try the number P6,35. Delete the faulty connection before creating a new one.

Here it is, it works! No need to launch the Orange space anymore!
current number: 0000000
I rummaged through the options to find this number, I found it in the Properties of the previous orange connection in the "General" tab this phone number: P8.35
Is this the number? Or is it P6.35?

Yes, I told you to rummage around! Well done! It's 8.35. I think I said 6.35 from memory.
Well, all you have to do now is run msconfig to get rid of all the useless stuff at startup and that's it!

Well, that's great! No more orange space, I’ve recovered my most important favorites (one by one) and everything is working!
No worries in the other session either...
And I already see many advantages to this Firefox!
Thank you so much for everything, you are the best!
Have a good evening! @+

Ouch! I'm back because I've just discovered 2 new problems (I don't know if it's related to all the previous manipulations...)
1st problem: in the messages I receive from Skype or MSN, I can't open the URL links that are sent to me... I have to copy-paste...

2nd problem: I have had a software for managing my video library for some time, it's called "Oxilog Video Library" and when I tried to run it, I got an error message that I've never seen before saying that Oxilog encountered an error; it offers to show me the error report which is as follows:

Software: Oxilog Video Library 2.0
V: 2.0.4
Error in object: FrmMain
Error number: -2147024769
Description:
Automation error
The specified procedure could not be found.
Additional information:
Form_Load

--------------------------------------
OS: Windows_NT (Windows XP Home Edition)
TIMESTAMP: 07/12/2006 22:45:11

There you go... if this makes sense to you...

Know that I tried uninstalling the software, reinstalling it, and it's still the same... I uninstalled it again, deleted the oxilog folder from program files, and ran regedit to remove everything related to this software;
then I reinstalled it and ultimately still get the same error message...

Well, I’m going to bed now, tired of all these problems, we’ll see about all this tomorrow! lol
Have a good evening and see you soon!

Ouch indeed.
For the URLs:
a little maintenance on the hard drive:
Start menu, My Computer, right-click on drive C then Properties, Disk Cleanup.
Check everything except "Compress files" then click OK.

Then, open a web page, Tools menu / Internet Options / Programs tab / Reset the web settings to default.

As for the rest, you're stumping me. And I'm away tomorrow.

Hi!
Well, it's still the same: all the URL links in my messages (msn, skype or personal messaging) are inactive...
Firefox is my default browser, and in the options, I've restored the default configuration, but nothing works...

So, revert your PC to normal configuration using msconfig.

Then, go to the start menu, connections, show all connections.
Then at the top left, create a new connection / next / choose to set up a connection to the Internet / next / configure manually / next / choose to connect via broadband / next / give it a name (e.g. wanadoo or orange) / next / username (fti/ your codes on the paper from orange) then the connection password from orange / next / finish.

After that, go to the start menu, connections, show all connections. Right-click / properties on the new connection icon and do this (go to the different tabs):
https://www.cjoint.com/?mgwDToIerv

Then try to connect with the new icon that will be on your desktop.
If it works, you can redo the steps from post n°9.

Hi,
I did all that and nothing works! Once I clicked on done, I went to properties but in the first tab (General), I don't have anything like that at all: I only have one line "Service Name" to fill in with the checkbox at the bottom left, that's it...
But I'm optimistic, I feel like we're not far off, right? lol
