How to recover photos from an SD card that needs to be formatted?

(that sometimes happens to me with an old USB drive). So there are indeed specialists capable of recovering all or part of the data from the healthy parts (just as they do with a damaged hard drive), but this skill is very expensive per hour... and it takes time... Everything depends on the value of the photos...

I was able to solve my problem by inserting my Micro SD into a memory card adapter. After inserting it into the slot (designed for adapters on most PCs), I recovered my photos without any issues.
Then I formatted my Micro SD in a mobile phone and I continue to use it.
I want to emphasize that before using this method, I tried many repair and recovery software without success.
Do not format your memory card out of desperation; there is always a solution to everything. Search - Ask!

But before changing the card, and to avoid losing the photos, connect the camera to your computer. There, the computer will not read a card but a card reader device. I forgot, do not format, but above all, do not try to take photos over it! For safety, lock the small yellow button in the "lock" position. This prevents rewriting and does not prevent searches on the SD. Software like Recuva... PC Inspector File Recovery... etc. They work very well to recover photos from a formatted card, but I haven't tried it on a malfunctioning card yet... PS: in a desperate situation, it will always be possible to recover the card by formatting it at the cost of losing everything on it... And with the price of cards, I prefer to buy another one while waiting to fix that one!

Hello, I have the same problem (My camera ran out of battery during a recording). The SD card is showing as empty and asking to be formatted... ABOVE ALL, DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD!!! Personally, I haven't tried it yet (no time!), but there are recovery software options (free or paid...). First, you need to repair the allocation table (that's what blocks the SD card after a problem). Once that's repaired, a simple recovery software (sometimes the same one) can recover the "lost" photos. I don't have the key yet (unfortunately), but it doesn't hurt to wait patiently for someone to provide the RIGHT solution with the correct instructions. It's better to wait than to lose everything!

In fact, neither the computer nor the device recognizes the card... I’m very disappointed, all the family winter sports are down the drain, it hurts too much. I found the solution. Just put the SD card back in the camera and copy the files to the PC using the USB cable included with the camera.
