What do you think about buying a USB turntable to record my vinyls? Do I need to get an amplifier for that? Best regards.

I have a USB Ion LPDOCK turntable that I connect directly to my Mac Pro. It comes with conversion software (EZ Audio Converter) that transfers recordings directly to the iTunes library on Mac. No amplifier is needed. You need a (pre)amp if the turntable is a traditional one. I have an old Thorens TD 160 turntable that, before acquiring the Ion turntable, I connected to my Marantz amplifier (model PM7001, which has a preamp for turntables), which itself was connected to my audio interface (MOTU 828mkII) for the Mac. I found it more convenient to have a USB turntable (but the quality is lesser than with my Thorens and its Shure M96 elliptical cartridge). However, when I listen to vinyl records, I still use the Thorens turntable connected to the Marantz, to which Cabasse Sampan 311 M14 speakers are connected. The sound is nothing like that of USB turntables, computers, etc. and especially not like MP3 which is a disaster. PS: I sample my vinyl in AIFF, not in MP3...

Hello, I have been using a turntable: ION- iTTUSB for several years without any particular problems. (It was the only device available on the market at the time of purchase) This has allowed me to recover all my vinyl records.

Hello, I made this purchase 2 years ago, pretty good for recovering the old records on a USB stick. Small problem, to filter out the pops and other small annoyances, you need good software (Audacity), which is pretty good but rather hard to get the hang of. There are products to clean vinyls and remove static electricity, and for new or almost new 33s, the result is great, but it gets expensive. There's still the old system of distilled water and a tiny bit of dish soap to use sparingly. Good luck and happy recovering!

There are excellent "analog-to-digital" converters at reasonable prices that allow you to listen to or record on a computer with a USB input. So why buy something mediocre when you can use a good conventional turntable equipped with a good cartridge and an excellent stylus? The USB turntable is therefore reserved ... for those who have no vinyl to listen to.

Hello Pierre, My son gave me a Sony LSPX300USB turntable for Christmas, and I can assure you that the results... exceed all my expectations. The sound quality of the vinyl recordings (for now on a hard drive) is excellent, with an easy-to-use control software that allows me to manage clipping... including reducing or even correcting surface noise and "scratches" (!). The automatic placement and lifting of the tonearm is very practical. The cartridge is equipped with a diamond. P.S./ A little attention to the setup (connections) is needed to benefit from the feedback through the laptop's speakers during recording.

Hello, I have a DJ-Tech turntable connected via USB. I'm recording using Audacity (which also helps to significantly reduce any crackling associated with vinyl). Everything works perfectly, without needing an amplifier. The listening is done through speakers connected to the PC. The quality is very acceptable. Best regards.
