Hello, Why is it that just by selecting them, without clicking on them, they lose their 'unread' appearance and look as if they have been opened and read? That is to say: UNREAD they are in bold + a big green dot indicating an unread status. Once READ, they switch to non-bold and the big green dot disappears... However, just by being selected, they become non-bold and the green dot disappears, as if they have been read!!!!! This is a HUGE source of error, because it often happens that messages that have become non-bold + the disappearance of the green dot (by the operation of the Holy Spirit) have in fact never been read! I have already searched a lot in Thunderbird options regarding the read status, and I found nothing. Does anyone know how to manage the opening of emails by ONESELF? Thank you in advance!

Have you clicked at the top on: tools/options/--->new window, tab "Advanced", then "reading and display"? There, you set the time in seconds for messages to be marked as read. You click OK, then restart Thunderbird and it applies your message marking instruction.

Yes: I did this on my wife's Thunderbird 12, and everything was better; then, I don't know how, the problem reappeared, and no matter what we check, no matter how long we adjust it, the messages are instantly marked as read. There is definitely a problem right now in free software: the bizarre evolution of Gimp, Ubuntu's Unity interface which has unanimous opposition against it for its ugliness and lack of ergonomics, and generally a more and more thoughtless and crazy management of projects, a need to change what works well; all this worries me for the future.

Thank you! I knew this parameter existed, but I couldn't remember where...
