Hello,
as I mentioned in the title, my 2 or 3-year-old HP Deskjet F2180 printer (which worked under Windows) is not recognized by my MacBook Pro (2011 OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, a little over a month old). I have the installation CD which specifies "Mac OS X v10.3.9, v10.4.x Version 8.0" and the installation goes smoothly, but the setup assistant does not detect the printer.
I have already checked Apple / About This Mac / More Info / Hardware / USB and it is detected under "High-Speed USB Bus / Hub / Deskjet F2100 series."
Would installing drivers be necessary?
Well, I'm a bit out of ideas...
Thanks for your responses.
Configuration: Mac OS X / Safari 535.1

Hello,
isn't it more like 4-5 years?
The DVD is obviously outdated, as it doesn't even recognize Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, so it doesn't recognize 10.6 Snow Leopard either, and currently, we are at 10.7 Lion...
So you will need to check the manufacturer's website to get an updated driver.
Step 1 : just connecting the printer didn't work? And by doing Apple => Software Update while it was connected and powered on, it didn't offer any updates? Because your printer shouldn't need the CD; it should normally be recognized without issues.
Step 2: If that doesn't work, click here (close the pop-up asking for your email):
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3177562#N193
Click on Driver(3) and try the second driver offered.
Windows has not detected any keyboard. Press Enter to continue.
Huh?
