Hello, I have a Philips 47pfl5604h. Purchased new in 2010. Tonight, it refuses to turn on. After consulting a forum specializing in repairs, I tested 2 diodes located under the 5 small capacitors on the right side. Schottky diodes SB260. (D911) One of the two is dead, I will replace it tomorrow, hoping that it will solve (for how long?) my problem for a paltry cost of one or two euros! I'll keep you updated!

Hi, is the model number of the TV: 42pfl7662d/12?
If so, I have the same problem; I managed to find the fault, it's a dead inverter (or surface mount capacitors and transformer on the inverter). But, like you, if your warranty is two months overdue, it could end up costing you a lot at the repair shop to replace the surface mount capacitors and the transformer (micro soldering). Since you might have burned out the surface mount capacitors and the transformer, I recommend buying an inverter (between €100 and €130) and you can change it yourself. You have three connectors to unplug and the two screws that hold it in place; it's super simple. There you go.

I had the same problem, you just need to contact Philips customer service, they will cover the repair as this is a known issue. Other models are affected as well.

It is very likely that the F1 fuse (SMD - Surface Mounted Device) is the weak point under the inverter board (circuit board side) located next to the power supply.

On the inverter board, bridge F1 with a 3Amp semiconductor fuse. The original inverter board fuse is only 2.5 A, which is insufficient (recurring failure). Do not solder a "glass tube" fuse (they are not designed for this)!

Since there is space under the inverter board, the replacement component should fit without any issues. No need to desolder F1.

A screwdriver, a good sharp soldering iron, a good magnifying glass, 1 hour of patience, and €0.65 for the component, and you're good to go! :-) !!

I just read your response from January 2, 2013. Since you seem to know the problem well, I have two Philips televisions, the 42PF5421/10 and the 32PFL3605H/12
that have both broken down, the same issue—no picture and no sound, but the red light that turns green works. After several months of communication with the Philips customer service, who completely disregard my problem, I decided to fix it myself. You mentioned a fuse
I looked inside the 42, the 3 fuses are good. I want to change the power supply board because I see on many forums that the biggest issue comes from there. What do you think??

I had the same issue with my 46-inch Samsung TV, after a few minutes the screen goes black but the sound still works.
The screen turns black, however, when I get close to it and illuminate it with my smartphone, I can see the image.
I then have to wait a few minutes for the image to reappear when restarting the TV.
After consulting various forums, I of course concluded that the problem must come from the capacitor, but it only malfunctions when it is (too) hot.
The best way to reduce this heating was to lower the backlight (to 8/10 by default!) and the screen brightness!! Now it works for me.

SIMPLE TEST: Lower the backlight and brightness!

Hello everyone,

It’s my turn to contribute to this topic about the Philips TV issue.
For my part, it’s the model 32pfl3506h/12 that suddenly turned off on Friday night while I was peacefully watching TV.
As a result, there’s no image or sound, and since then I’ve tried quite a few manipulations that haven’t worked.
While browsing various forums, I’m shocked to see that this problem is very common with Philips televisions.
For a TV that is only 4 years old, I find this outrageous (I have a second LG TV that has had no issues in 5 years).
I haven’t contacted Philips customer service yet, but I can already imagine their attitude regarding my problem.

Courage to everyone, and maybe we should consider taking collective action.

Hello,

All updates have been completed.
I can no longer even perform a factory reset, for example, because as explained in my description, when I plug in the TV and press the power button (either on the remote or directly on the TV), nothing happens; the screen remains black.
When I press the buttons on the TV or the buttons on the remote, I see the red LED blinking (a sign that the TV is responding) but the image stays black no matter what I do.
I am therefore stuck with this black screen.

What a scam Philips is!

I just contacted the number mentioned above.
I spoke with someone who explained that my TV needs to be repaired (oh really! I didn't understand that, I thought it was normal to have a black screen!!!!)
This person told me that since the TV is no longer under warranty, Philips offers to send a technician to assess the repairs (paid estimate) and to carry out the repairs if the estimate is accepted!
So basically, in addition to scamming me with a TV that breaks down after barely 4 years, Philips wants to further squeeze my money with a paid estimate + paid repairs.
I naively asked if there was any goodwill gesture for the repair, and the person calmly replied, "not at all, it's standard pricing without any gesture since your TV is no longer under warranty."
I continued and asked if they find it normal for a TV to break down after just 4 years of life, the answer was "yes, that's completely normal, these are electrical components that have a limited lifespan."
I insisted by saying that my second LG TV, which is 7 years old, still works fine with no issues, the response was "LG certainly has components of better quality!"
Finally, I asked for their opinion on the fact that hundreds of similar breakdown cases are reported on several forums, their response: "it's normal for people to complain if their TV no longer works. That doesn’t mean Philips TVs are of poor quality."

So, to you Philips Customer Service FR, if your intention was to squeeze a little more money out of me by pushing me to repair my TV with you, know that I would rather smash my TV into a thousand pieces than give you another cent.

I see that the number of cases is increasing, and I must admit I feel reassured and less alone.
My black screen issue is still not resolved.
Phillips, you called me several weeks ago now to "try" to contact the repair service and see "if" my television would ultimately be reparable (as a reminder: black screen, sound okay, online estimate suggests changing the panel, estimate over 300 euros, but the panel is unavailable if I ever wanted to have it repaired; for a 3-year-old TV, that's pretty average...).
I’m still waiting for your call to give me this information.. ?
Is it or is it not repairable? Are you sticking to your "gesture" of a 30% refund of the estimate for the repair or a new TV, or are you finally offering a commercial gesture that matches the issue I've encountered (TV just over 3 years old, that has been used very, very LITTLE, high-end model in 81cm costing over 500 euros)?

I’m still waiting for your call, unless you’re trying to stall; from my side, I won’t forget, don’t worry.

As for the others: good luck, my file was created in January......

A solution was found for my issue that dated back to January.
The company M3S, which handles Phillips' after-sales service, offered me a very customer-friendly solution at Phillips' request to find a solution to my problem.
I received a replacement for my defective TV with a refurbished equivalent model, so second-hand but almost new.
I thank the company M3S for its professionalism in handling the problem, even after such a long wait.
As for Phillips... many promises of callbacks, but few concrete actions...
