Toshiba 32XV566DG no picture Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,  I bought a Toshiba 32-inch Full HD LCD TV model 32XV566DG in March 2009. It was working perfectly, and all of a sudden, it stopped turning on properly: the sound works fine, but no image appears.  This can’t be from the peripherals (PlayStation or box), the TV operates simply as if the screen remains off (the green light indicates that the TV is on nonetheless).  The picture usually appears after waiting 15 to 30 minutes when I leave the TV on without touching anything. Also, if I unplug all my equipment and then plug it back in, the picture sometimes displays instantly, but the issue comes back a few hours later.  Has anyone faced this type of problem? Do you see where it could be coming from, and how can I solve it?  Thank you very much for your help!

I had the same problem with my 46-inch Samsung TV; after a few minutes, the screen goes black but the sound still works.
The screen turns black, but by getting closer to the screen and shining my smartphone light on it, I can perceive the image.
I then have to wait a few minutes for the image to reappear when restarting the TV.
After consulting various forums, I concluded that the problem must be related to the capacitor; however, it only malfunctions when it’s (too) hot.
The best way to reduce this overheating has been to lower the backlight (to 8/10 by default!) and the screen brightness!! Now it works for me.

SIMPLE TEST: Reduce the backlight and brightness!

Hello,

We need to know if the backlight is on.

On an LCD screen, there is no light production from the panel; the image appears because it is lit from behind by fluorescent lighting.

You most likely have a failure in the inverter circuit supplying the backlight.

However, it's a good sign that it turns on after a while, as this indicates a thermal failure.

All that’s left is to locate it, heat it with a hairdryer to confirm its culpability, and then cool it down to isolate the element to be replaced.

I have exactly the same symptoms with a Toshiba 32WL66Z from late 2006: the picture systematically disappears after about 1.5 hours of operation.
The sound is still there. If I turn it off and on again, the picture comes back for a few minutes. If I leave it on with just the sound, the picture returns after 2/3 minutes, then disappears again, then comes back, then disappears again: fun when watching a suspenseful movie :-)
Finally, it has stopped being amusing.
The problem is definitely related to the TV as it occurs regardless of the source (DVD, antenna, ADSL ...). I have also set up the TV in a different environment (fewer connections, no Wi-Fi), and it's the same.
Have you solved your problem? I would be interested to know how ...

Hello,
I had the same mishap with my Toshiba Regza TV; when I turned it on this morning, I only had sound but no image.
I unplugged and replugged the devices, but the situation didn't improve; the screen remains permanently black.
The TV is an LCD purchased in July 2008, not even three and a half years old, it’s unfortunate.

Do you have any idea about the diagnosis and the repair cost?

I have the same issue with a Toshiba 32 inch Full HD LCD TV purchased in 2007. I struggle to turn it off and on again until the picture appears; this can take two or three tries up to twenty times... and this problem has been going on for more than a year...

I have a similar problem with a Toshiba 22DV733 TV purchased in 2010.
For the past few days, the screen is black but the sound works (just to clarify: the screen lights up for a second on startup, then goes off).
I tested the lamp and I can see that there is an image; it's just that the backlight is not working anymore.
I tried lowering the brightness, but it didn't change anything, even after leaving the TV on for 15 minutes.
I dismantled it and didn’t see any swollen capacitors or signs of overheating (NOTE: I’m not an expert in electronics; I didn’t see any obvious signs, but that’s relative).
If anyone has an idea or advice, I thank you in advance.
